Edward Joseph Tomlinson, 83, of Bridgeport, CT, formerly of Stamford and Monroe, CT, and Fairless Hills and Springfield, PA, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025.
Ed is survived by his two children, Brian Tomlinson (Gina Trivelli) and Kimberly Tomlinson, who brought Ed his greatest joy. He was a proud and devoted father, always there to support his children and quick to share how much they meant to him. Ed deeply valued the time he shared with his grandchildren, Aidan and Dylan Tomlinson, whose presence always brightened his days. He is also survived by his former wife, Joan Tauro Tomlinson, whom he remained closely connected through mutual respect and the deep love they shared for their family. He was predeceased by his parents James and Clara Tomlinson, and his brothers James Tomlinson and George Tomlinson.
Ed was born on October 19, 1942, in Philadelphia, and grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania, where he attended Springfield High School. He later went on to Rider College earning his degree in accounting. Ed also proudly served in the United States Army National Guard for three years.
After completing his education and service, Ed began his career in accounting where his sharp mind and attention to detail quickly earned him the respect of his colleagues. Over the years he held positions as an auditor, treasurer, and comptroller, beginning at United States Steel and later with its subsidiary, Navios. His work took him around the globe — to Venezuela, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Vancouver, England, and Norway — adventures that blended his love of precision with his quirky sense of humor. Ed returned from each trip with new stories to tell, sharing them with his trademark wit.
When Ed retired he set a personal goal to visit as many National Parks as he could — and he made good on that promise, exploring over fifteen of them. Always ready for adventure, he enjoyed day trips around Connecticut, wandering the streets of Manhattan, scenic drives through the Northeast, and even journeys with his daughter to Iceland, England, and many of the National Parks he loved so much.
Ed had a deep appreciation for the beauty found in both nature and art. He enjoyed capturing the small details of the outdoors with his camera — an unusual tree, striking clouds, simple pine cones, or colorful leaves — which he fittingly captioned “Nature’s Art.” His love of travel led him to explore sculpture parks, art museums, and countless waterfalls, and when he was home, he never missed a chance to enjoy live jazz with friends.
More than anything, Ed’s goal in life was to make people laugh — a true reflection of who he was as a person.
To Ed: We raise a glass in your honor — a V.O. Manhattan, straight up, easy on the Vermouth, with a cherry. Or perhaps just a Pepsi, full of sparkle and energy, just like you. Here’s to your humor, your generous spirit, and the joy you brought to all who knew you.
