Edyth T Joyner, affectionately known as Terry, embarked on her heavenly journey on November 4th, 2025. Born on April 22, 1951, in New York, NY, to parents Jasper and Beulah, Terry carried with her an inner light that shone brightly through her compassionate spirit, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty. As her son, I am honored to share memories of her love and devotion to God, family, friends, and community, elements that served as the cornerstones of her existence and the values she shared with others.

Terry was an educator in the truest sense of the word, not only by profession but in her everyday interactions. With a Masters in Education, she dedicated 28 years to Fairfax County Public Schools, shaping minds and nurturing spirits. Upon her retirement in 2009, Terry's love for learning and her commitment to nurturing others didn't cease. Instead, she found joy in simple pleasures like attending church, watching Nascar, and visiting with her family and friends. She was an active and faithful member of the Scripture Church of Christ for over thirty years where she served in various roles and shared her unwavering faith. In her final years she later joined and became a member of Morning Glory Apostolic Ministry. Her dedication to her faith and community was a testament of the verse, "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up," Galatians 6:9.

Her sons, Tarik and Yusef; daughters-in-law, Joy and Marne; grandchildren, Nasir, Josiah, and Alia; step-grandsons, Khalif Warren and Isaiah Gilbough, brother Richard Brown and a host of cousins survive Terry. Her love for them was boundless and unconditional. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Rector Jr; her son, Hassan Joyner; her parents, Jasper and Beulah Brown; and her sister, Anita Brown. Yet, even in grief, we find solace in knowing that Terry's legacy lives on in each one of us, in the love she shared, the faith she instilled, and the wisdom she imparted.

Please join us in celebrating Terry's life by sharing your memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page. As we remember her compassionate spirit, generous nature, loving heart, and loyal soul, we keep her memory alive. Rest in peace, dear Edyth, your love and wisdom will continue to guide us as we cherish the life you lived and the love you left behind.

Her Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Herndon, Virginia. She will be interred in a private family ceremony at Ivy Hill Cemetery, 2823 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302.

The family would ask that in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to Capital Caring which provided care services at the end of her life. Donations can be made at: https://capitalcaring.funraise.org/ in memory of Edyth Joyner.
