Send Flowers
Elaine Nowakowski (née Fisher), of Lake Village, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on October 25, 1944, in Hammond, Indiana, Elaine lived a life rooted in love, resilience, and devotion to her family.

Elaine was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Noelle Peters (Connor Reeve) of DeMotte, Indiana, and Holly Nowakowski-Kortum (Robert Kortum) of Lake Village, Indiana. Her greatest joy came from being “MomMom” to her beloved grandchildren, Caleb and Grace Peters. She cherished every moment spent with them and found immense pride in their lives.

Elaine shared a deep and enduring bond with her late husband, Terrence Nowakowski. Their union was one of mutual respect and unwavering support until his passing. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law David Peters; her parents Roy and Victoria Fisher; her in-laws Claude and Josephine Nowakowski; her brother-in-laws Dennis Nowakowski and Edward Gronowski; and many other dear family members and friends who now welcome her home.

She is lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Dianne Gronowski of Mokena, Illinois; nephews and nieces Mark (Francesca) Gronowski, Doug (Debby) Gronowski, and Lisann Gronowski; great niece Gianna Gronowski (Mishka Epsey); as well as extended family members and friends whose lives she touched with kindness.

Elaine had a creative spirit and a nurturing heart. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting—crafts that reflected both her patience and care. She also had a talent for doing hair, often using it as another way to connect with those around her. Above all else, she treasured time spent with family and friends. Whether gathered around the table or sharing quiet moments together, Elaine’s presence brought warmth and comfort.

Since March of this year, Elaine faced significant health challenges. Despite each setback along the way, she fought with remarkable strength and determination. Though her body grew weary, her spirit remained steadfast until the end. In her final moments, she was embraced by peace as she reunited with loved ones who had gone before her.

Elaine’s legacy is one of love—deeply felt by those who knew her best—and she will be genuinely missed by all whose lives she graced.

May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing and serve as a lasting reminder of the love she so freely gave. A Service will be held on October 25, 2025, at 02:00 PM at St Augusta 3228 W State Road 10 Lake Village, IN 46349
