In Loving Memory of Eleanor C. (Schmidt) Bessetti
January 13, 1938 – October 25, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor C. (Schmidt) Bessetti, who passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 87.
Eleanor was the proud mother of four sons — the late Thomas and James Dominick, Salvatore, and Vincent Anthony (wife Christine). She was the loving grandmother of Salvatore Jr., Justin, Elise, and Emily, and great-grandmother to Grayson.
She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Clara Conroy, Joseph Schmidt, and Alice Reyes, and is survived by her niece and nephews Joan Conroy, Marion Conroy, Mary Conroy, Thomas Conroy, Melissa Werner, Daniel Werner, and her goddaughter Barbara Reyes.
Born and raised in Hoboken, New Jersey, on January 13, 1938, Eleanor grew up surrounded by family, friends, and the close-knit community she always cherished. She graduated from A.J. Demarest High School and worked for many years at Bayonne Hospital until her retirement.
She worked hard all her life, never asking for help, and devoted herself fully to providing for her family with strength, pride, and perseverance. Eleanor shared many years living with her son Sal, finding comfort in her home and in the companionship of her beloved dogs — Pepper, Tigger, Lady, Shadow, and Baby — who were by her side throughout different times in her life.
She will be remembered as a strong-minded and outspoken woman who always stood up for what she believed in. Her honesty, independence, and love for family and the simple joys of life made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend Eleanor’s Memorial Mass to celebrate her life on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 10:15 AM at Our Lady of Grace Church, 400 Willow Avenue, Hoboken, NJ. Funeral arrangements by Earl F. Bosworth Funeral Home, 311 Willow Avenue, Hoboken, NJ.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
