Page was born in Houston, Texas, to William Maclin Douglas and Laurine Wade Douglas. She grew up in Baytown, Texas, and attended Ole Miss for her bachelor’s degree in English and Education. She taught in many places including Long Beach, California, Oxford, MS, Lexington, KY, and Auburn, AL. Page knew at an early age she wanted to teach. She met her husband, Murray, the love of her life while attending Ole Miss, and soon after the couple married and moved to Auburn where she taught in public schools. Page was devoted to Auburn United Methodist Church where she sang in the chancel choir for forty-three years, directed Vacation Bible School, and chaired a number of committees. Page was president of the AU Campus Club, a member of Auburn Woman’s Club, corresponding secretary in PEO, Chapter X, and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. At retirement Page and Murray made many trips all over the world. She and Murray loved to entertain and were in several dinner groups including one for over fifty years. Page loved her daughters, Laura Page Adams (Birmingham) and Emily Fondren, her husband Tony, and her two wonderful grandsons, Cooper and Owen Fondren (Corinth, MS). Page loved spending time with her family, and will be remembered as LaLa by both Cooper and Owen.
Alabama Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The Celebration of Life service will be at AUMC on Sunday, October 19th at 3 with visitation one hour before the service in the sanctuary. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to AUMC Music Ministry or AUMC Foodbank.
