Elizabeth Slechta Dominguez completed her life on September 20, 2025, at the age of 74. She spent her final days peacefully at her home in Charlotte, and passed while holding the hand of her husband of forty years, Francis Dominguez. He survives her, as do their children, Torie, Maria, Joe, and Tiffany, and their granddaughter, Olivia. She is also survived by her brothers, John and Steve Slechta, and was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Slechta, and her parents, Sarah East Slechta and Joseph Andrew Slechta.
Born Sarah Elizabeth Slechta on June 25, 1951 in New Albany, Indiana, Liz grew up to be a talented artist and actor, a lover of music and film, and above all, a nurturing soul. She attained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Orleans and went on to teach in New Orleans, New York, and North Carolina. In 1990, she began the career that would be her crowning achievement - motherhood. Described by her daughter as "made to be a Mom," Liz's unconditional love, acceptance, and advocacy for her children built a foundation for the future that far surpasses the limitations of genes or blood. She was a Mother to any and all who needed one in the moment that they happened across her path.
The beautiful life of Liz Dominguez will be celebrated at a gathering on Saturday, November 15 at 3 p.m. in The Long Room, 1111 Central Avenue, Suite 230, in Charlotte. Coffee, tea, and pastries will be served. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you consider a donation in honor of Liz to Anuvia Prevention & Recovery Center, whose community she loved and supported faithfully until the end.
