Elizabeth Nixon Friedel, aged 81, passed away on October 25, 2025, in Peyton, Colorado. Born on January 11, 1944, Elizabeth was a devoted wife, mother, and community member, known for her love of family and animals.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Thomas and Cordelia Goldhammer; her husband of 53 years, Lawrence James Friedel; her sister, Karen Goldhammer; and her brother, Thomas Goldhammer. She is survived by her sisters, June Goldhammer Antenberg (Edward) and Rita Goldhammer Bassler (Phillip); her five sons, Timothy Mark Friedel of Grassy Meadows, WV, Stephen Lawrence Friedel (Paula) of Taneytown, MD, Michael Allan Friedel (Rebecca) of Peyton, CO, Wayne Lawrence Friedel (Jennifer) of Punta Gorda, FL, and Matthew James Friedel (Lisa) of Fountain, CO. Elizabeth was also a cherished grandmother to Amanda, Sara, Wayne Jr., Sheree, Adam, Allen, Johnny, Maryellen, and several great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth dedicated much of her life to community service and volunteerism. She was recognized as the 1974 Scout Family of the Year with Den #718, where she served as a Den Mother throughout the 1970s. Her leadership extended to her role as a 4-H Leader in the early 1970s. Elizabeth was actively involved in various volunteer groups, including the Taneytown Ladies Auxiliary Club and the Taneytown and Fishing Creek Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as the Dorchester AARP.
Her religious life was rich and varied; she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, MD, attended the First Baptist Church in Littlestown, PA from 2015 to 2022, and more recently, the Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel in Colorado Springs, CO, until her passing in 2025.
Elizabeth's personal interests included traveling and adventuring with her late husband Larry. Later in life she enjoyed reading, completing jigsaw puzzles, and word searches. She also enjoyed reminiscing over old cookbooks and family photos, reflecting on cherished memories. She led a distinguished life marked by her personal achievements and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. Elizabeth’s presence will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all who new her.
A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2026, where an intimate gathering will combine her ashes with those of her late husband Larry on Hoopers Island in the Chesapeake Bay.
