Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Duby French was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her, passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 54. Surrounded by her loving family on the Big Island of Hawaii—a place she held close to her heart—Liz ended her courageous battle with cancer in peace and beauty.
Born on February 10, 1971, in Howell, Michigan, Liz was the cherished daughter of Thomas and Judy Duby and the only girl among four siblings. In 1977, her family relocated to San Juan Capistrano, where Liz quickly embraced the California sunshine and spirit.
A proud graduate of Dana Hills High School's Class of 1989, Liz's journey was one of passion and perseverance. She was remarkably resourceful, embracing each opportunity with enthusiasm and adaptability.
On August 20, 2000, Liz married Shane French, in a joyful celebration of their bond. The following year, they welcomed their son Trevor—her heart, her pride, her everything. Liz was his biggest fan, cheering him on through wrestling, football, and his honorable service in the United States Navy.
Liz's life was rich with love, laughter, and connection. She treasured time with her mother, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Whether it was a birthday bash, a holiday gathering, a concert, or a cozy trip to Big Bear, Liz brought joy and sparkle to every moment. Her best friend Chari was her constant companion in countless adventures and everyday joys.
A devoted animal lover, Liz adored her dogs, Sasha and Fred, who were never far from her side.
In the fall of 2024, Liz moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. It was there, in the embrace of paradise and the arms of her family, that she spent her final days. Her loved ones surrounded her in a circle of warmth and memory, sharing stories and a lavender oil ceremony that honored her spirit. She left this world as she lived in it—wrapped in love, laughter, and light.
Liz is survived by her son, Trevor, her brothers, Mike (Atsuko), Jeff (Amber) and Greg (Michelle), her aunts Gloria (Jim) and Nancy (Kelly), Uncle Gary, cousins Renee (John), Lynzee, Eddie and Kelly, nephews Christopher and Brandon, nieces Cameron, Jordyn and Kathryn and great-nephew Kyson.
A celebration of life service will take place at on October 29, 2025, at 10 am at St. Edward Catholic Church in Dana Point, California. Feel free to wear something bright in memory of a life lived in color.
