Elizabeth Lynne McKay, known as Lizzie, Liz, or Mama Bear, passed peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Palos Heights, Illinois, at the age of 68. She was born on June 28, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois.
Known for her brilliant mind, quick wit, and sharp sense of humor, Liz was a joyful presence who could make anyone laugh, no matter the day. She loved delicious food, sharing stories, and laughter around a table, as well as music—especially Natalie Merchant and Bruce Springsteen. She cherished her children, family, and friends with all her heart. Liz was an incredibly proud and devoted nurse, embracing each day with compassion, dedication, and genuine joy in caring for others.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Zachry (Camilo), Jessica, and Kelsey (Mike). She also leaves behind her siblings: Leslie (Mark), Lauren (Thomas), and Robert McKay, her former husband (Paul) and his siblings (Mark, Carl, Doris), along with many nieces and nephews, and her beloved Bunco Babes.
Liz was preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Ann Peters; her parents, Donald and Jackie McKay; her brother-in-law, Mark Williams; and her nephew, Clayton Williams.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 10, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gatto's Italian Restaurant & Bar, 8005 183rd St, Tinley Park, IL 60487. All are welcome to gather in remembrance, sharing stories, laughter, and good food among family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to assist with service expenses through their GoFundMe, or to support SIDS of Illinois research.
May the passing of Elizabeth Lynne McKay bring comfort to all, knowing she is no longer in pain and is reunited with her daughter Jackie and her parents.
