Elizabeth (Czmolak) Skorupski, affectionately known as Betty, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, in Warren, Michigan, just five days shy of her 95th birthday. Born on November 15, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of the late Julia (Raczkowska) and Joseph Czmolak.
Betty was the second of four daughters and shared a lifelong bond with her sisters—Lillian (Stan) Pykosz, Rita (Steve) Rzepka, and Margaret (Lou) Borucki—all of whom preceded her in death. The Czmolak sisters were inseparable throughout their lives, sharing countless memories and milestones side by side.
On May 2, 1953, Betty married the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Skorupski, at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Detroit. Together they built a family rooted in love and faith. Their children include Michael (Cheryl) Skorupski, the late infant Joseph, Donna (Calvin) Messer, the late Lynn (late Art) Szablowski, Mark (Mary) Skorupski, Robert (Hope) Skorupski, and James (Helen) Skorupski.
A devoted Catholic throughout her life, Betty found strength and solace in her faith. She attended Mass regularly on Sunday mornings and honored Catholic traditions with deep reverence. Her spiritual devotion was a guiding force that shaped her resilience and compassion.
Despite facing years of leukemia and later additional cancer diagnoses, Betty remained an enduring example of strength and perseverance. She approached each challenge with quiet determination—rarely complaining—and remained committed to her treatments with unwavering resolve. Her will to live fully never faltered; she truly fought to the very end.
Betty’s sharp mind was one of her most remarkable qualities. Even in her later years, she remembered birthdays without fail, sent thoughtful cards for every occasion, kept up with the lives of those around her, and cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching women’s basketball when her granddaughter Maddy played—a testament to how deeply she supported those she loved.
She leaves behind a legacy carried forward by her grandchildren: Jennifer (George) Harnick, Bryan (Jennifer) Messer, Amy (Daniel) Rhines, Kimberly (Clifton) Smalley, Nichole (Dr. Thomas) Keegan, Michael McKenna, Courtney (Phil) Palnau, James Skorupski, Nicholas Skorupski, Robert Skorupski, and Madison Skorupski. Her memory also lives on through thirteen great-grandchildren: Lukas, Austin, Elijah, Abraham, Isaac, Victoria, Kalli, Amelia, Ava, Calvin, Emmy, August and Jameson.
Betty is also remembered by her sister-in-laws: Sue Skorupski, Betty Skorupski and Marilyn (Donald) Plungis—each part of the extended family that enriched her life.
In death Betty is reunited with many loved ones who went before her: her husband Jerry; daughter Lynn; son-in-law Art; infant son Joseph; sisters Lillian, Rita and Margaret; and countless other family members and friends whose memories she cherished.
For most of their lives, Betty and Jerry Lived on Cambridge in Warren. Surrounded by family and friendly neighbors. Later in life, Betty enjoyed gambling and trips to the casino with many relatives, including Lynn Szablowski, and sister-in-laws Betty and Sue Skorupski. She enjoyed shopping at Macy's, Lord & Taylor's and Hallmark. Her grandchildren recall Betty would often buy them the latest Disney movie on VHS and the newest barbie ornament for their tree. Every Christmas, Betty would purchase each family member children, grandchildren and great grandchildren a Christmas ornament. Every married couple received a Hallmark Father Christmas. There is not a Christmas tree in the Skorupski household that is not filled with ornaments Betty has gifted. Betty would cook delicious meals. Pierogies, Golabki, Kielbasa and Sauerkraut, and Meatballs were a crowd favorite. For years Fr. Stan would join Betty and Jerry for dinner for both food and fellowship. For decades, Betty and Jerry had a closeknit friendship group that enjoyed doing numerous things together. From playing New Year's card games, raising their children and simply enjoying each other's company - their friendship was lifelong.
Elizabeth “Betty” Skorupski lived a life marked by devotion—to faith, to family and to enduring through adversity with grace. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
