Gail R. S. Keller died peacefully on October 14th, 2025.
She was born in The Bronx on September 3rd, 1944 to Miriam Hochberg Stern and Milton Stern, and was raised on Long Island with her brother, Elliot. She grew up on the water and the beach always felt like home. Gail loved her family, and often shared fond memories of time spent with her large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gail studied history and sociology at Skidmore College, graduating in 1966. Following her graduation, she traveled through Europe before moving to Washington, D.C. and beginning her career as a staffer on Capitol Hill. While walking her dog at the park, she crossed paths with Bill, who would become her husband. They shared 45 happy years of raising their family and trying to beat each other to the last slice of pizza. After having their children, Gail and Bill co-founded and published Prince William County's local messenger newspapers. Even after her retirement, Gail was an avid news enthusiast and shared her love for politics with everyone around her. She was a great cook, incredible writer, and unbeatable at scrabble. But her greatest passion in life was her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren, and her coveted Sunday dinners will be cherished memories.
Gail was predeceased by her husband, William A. C. Keller.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Keller Mulder and her husband Kenneth; and Charles "Woody" Keller and his wife Carisa; stepchildren, William Allen Coppage Keller Jr. and his wife Margret; and Virginia Keller; eight grandchildren, Katherine, Charlotte, Elaina, Charlize, Dmitri, Tristan, Solveig, and Selma; and numerous cousins and friends.
Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) or the giver's charity of choice.
