Gary Francis Kellogg, 84, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Pahrump, Nevada. Born on July 4, 1941, in Murray, Utah, Gary spent his childhood years living in Japan and later, on Lake Sawyer near Black Diamond, Washington. Gary lived a life marked by service, devotion to family, and unwavering integrity.
A proud veteran of the U. S. Air Force, Gary served his country with honor before pursuing higher education. He earned a B.A. in Architecture and a B.S. in Soil Science from Washington State University, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to building—not only structures but also strong relationships and communities.
For over 20 years he worked for the U.S. National Forest Service in Colorado, Oregon, Wyoming and Idaho as a soil scientist. In Idaho he worked as a liaison between the Nez Perce Tribe and the Nez Perce National Forest, being awarded a Civil Rights award in 1987. Later in life he worked alongside the 1st Nations community in Alberta, Canada, teaching classes to help students achieve their GED through an alternative learning path.
Gary was a man who found joy in creating and cultivating. He loved the outdoors. Whether he was building something with his hands or tending to his garden, he approached each task with care, purpose, and unmatched work ethic. His love for working with his hands was matched only by his deep commitment to serving others. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gary served faithfully in many capacities throughout his life, including Bishop over a congregation in Grangeville, ID, and at the University of Idaho. His spiritual strength and dedication to his faith were evident in all he did.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Randi; daughters Kristi (Ryan), Nicole (Nathan), and Danielle (Matt); sons Kevin (Julie), Darren (Stephanie), and Ryan (Michelle); sister Francine (Alan); 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his father Francis H. Kellogg Jr, mother Josephine Walters, and son Sean Kellogg.
Gary's legacy is one of quiet strength and steadfast values. Those who knew him will remember a man who led by example—spiritual yet grounded, humble yet strong. His presence enriched the lives of many through both word and deed. He will be missed.
A private graveside service will be held in Murray, Utah, on October 25, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Breakthrough T1D).
