Minister Geneva Castro, born on September 28, 1939, in Andrews, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, in Rochester, New York. She was 86 years old.
A devoted servant of faith, family and community, Minister Castro dedicated her life to uplifting those around her. Her journey of faith led her to Temple of God Church, Inc., located at 195 Congress Avenue in Rochester, where she served faithfully as a Minister.
Geneva was the daughter of Dollie Jones and Willie Johnson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilson Castro; her sister Doretha Floyd; and her brothers Priest Jones Jr. (Reverend Patricia), Andrew Lee Jones (Yvonne), Willie Earl Jones, James Jones, Peter Jones, William Edward Hayward, and Johnnie Charles Jones.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters Thelma Reed, Hester Johnson (Richard), and Minister Bertha Howard. Geneva’s legacy lives on through her children: Esperita Watson (Lorenzo), Deborah Johnson, Jannice Johnson, Jake Johnson, Carmen Castro-Washington, Eduardo (Lisa Eckelberger) Castro, Nina Castro, and Maria Castro. Her family continued to grow with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into her life.
In addition to her immediate family, Geneva leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth and guidance.
In keeping with Minister Geneva Castro’s journey of faith, family and friends are invited to attend Sunday Service on November 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Temple of God Church, Inc., 195 Congress Avenue in Rochester, NY 14611.
Her life was one of purpose—rooted in faith and love for others. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
