George Albert Anderson, 88, of Coventry, beloved husband of 60 years to Ruth (Gocht) Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Born on May 3, 1937 in New Britain, CT, George was son to the late Albert and Ellen (Person) Anderson. Bert, as he was lovingly known to family and friends, grew up in Newington, CT, and was a graduate of the Newington High School class of 1955.
George graduated from Trinity College in 1959 and continued his education at Yale University, earning a Ph.D. in mathematical statistics in 1964. As a professor at Trinity College (1964-1971) and Rhode Island College (1971-1999), George was a respected faculty member whose colleagues became lifelong friends.
Raised in the Covenant Church, George attended Trinity Covenant Church in Manchester with his wife and children for many years. He was a family man at heart, and cherished summer vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee and Cape Cod.
Retirement years meant more time on the golf course with his "golfing buddies", traveling with his wife, and being Grandpa to his beloved grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his three children: John (and Julie) Anderson of Northborough, MA, Jennifer (and Oliver) Reid of Barrington, RI, and Sarah (and Mike) Wilander of Holden, MA, along with eight grandchildren: Steven, Jacob and Megan Anderson, Parker and Olivia Reid, and Miles, Ava, and Amelia Wilander. George also leaves his sister-in-law, Jane Burr of Vernon, CT, his brother-in-law, Ronald Gocht of Cromwell, CT, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Gary Burr and twin sister, Nancy Gocht.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 11:00AM at the First Congregational Church of Coventry, 1171 Main St, Coventry, CT 06238.
