George Ragovis, 94, of Washington D.C., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 23, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born in Kaunas, Lithuania January 30, 1931, to Joseph and Liuba Ragovis (Berezina), his family fled Lithuania due to World War II; he spent the war in Alma-Ata, Kazakh SSR and was able to immigrate to the USA afterwards.

A graduate of Bronx High School of Science and Georgia Tech, he served 21 years in the US Army, including a tour in Vietnam, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. A true polymath, he embarked on a second career in law, graduating from Georgetown Law School. He practiced for the Justice Department and then MCI, the telecommunications company. Interests included computers, his garden and mystery books and media.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nina Scribanu Ragovis, his son Nicholas Ragovis (Alison Yang) and grandchildren Rachel and Jacob.

Funeral service to be held 11 AM, Monday, February 9, 2026 at Ft. Myer Chapel, Arlington, VA. Internment with full military honors to follow at Arlington National Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Palliative Medicine program at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
