George J. Varanakis – Father, husband, son, brother, Marine, mentor, trailblazer and a one-of-a-kind force of nature – passed away on November 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy built on family, hard work, humor and undeniable heart.

George was born on April 8, 1939, on his family’s farm in American Fork, Utah. In his early years, he was an all-around athlete, playing baseball, basketball and football at Jordan High School and later at Dixie College in St. George, Utah.

George made his mark early as an insurance industry pioneer and entrepreneur, known for his bold ideas, sharp instincts and relentless drive. He wasn’t just successful in his field—he changed it. Colleagues respected him, competitors watched him and countless people were inspired by his leadership and vision.

George’s legacy expands far beyond the insurance industry, as nothing was more important to him than family. He had a gift for connecting with people and was known by many names—Coach, Mr. Mom, Uncle George, Papou George and, of course, Mr. V. Whether he was coaching on the field, offering advice, cracking a joke or simply showing up when someone needed him, he made others feel supported and valued.

Some of his happiest moments were spent on hunting trips, hosting tailgate parties for his beloved Utes or showing up to every sporting event to cheer on his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. George was the ultimate coach, mentor, trusted friend and the steady center of the family who loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, George (Sue) and Ann; his sister, Klea (Pete); his brother, Joe (Myra); and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his legacy lives on through the impact he had on the lives he touched and the love he shared. May his memory be eternal.
