91 years of age, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday evening May 13, 2025 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was the husband of Ruth Ann (Bray) West for 62 years until her passing in 2019. They were married in the Methodist Church in Bangor on May 25, 1957.

Born in East Bangor on October 13, 1933, he was a son of the late George O. and
Anna (Weaver) West.

George and Ruth met as seniors in Bangor High School and graduated together in 1952. George joined the United States Marine Corp. 2/23/1953. He served during the Korean Conflict spending 14 months in Japan. He received his Honorable Discharge on 2/22/1956 with the rank of Sergeant.

He was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Insurance Co. in Allentown for 6 years before having his own agency with Nationwide Ins. Co. for 31 years in Hokendauqua. He retired in 1997. Since his retirement, he worked at Strawberry Acres Orchards during the fruit picking season. He always said working with all the young people at the Acres made him feel 20 years younger.

He took up the genealogy of his family after retiring and loved spending hours in cemeteries, libraries and court houses finding new information about his past generations.

George was a member for over thirty years of the National Association of Life Underwriters and served as President and Board Member of the Lehigh Valley Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member of the American Legion Jones Quigg Post 739 of Hokendauqua since 1970.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua having served as an Elder and Trustee including Chairman of the Pulpit nominating committee and Co-Chair of the Sanctuary Renovation Committee.

Survivors: daughters Sharon West (Reamer) and Donna White with her husband Bernie; grandson Gregory Reamer; sisters Joyce Ott and Pauline Bickford; along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by sisters Dorothy Horton and Shirley LaBarre.

George was privately interred alongside Ruth in Saint John's Cemetery Bangor.
