Georgia Mae Gilbert Quinn, a devoted homemaker, loving mother, and faithful Catholic, died peacefully surrounded by family on November 2, 2025 in Portland, Oregon. Born Georgia Mae Gilbert on Armistice Day of 1927 in Salem, Oregon, she was 97 years old. Georgia's parents, Fred and Mary Gilbert, came from North Dakota and Saskatchewan (respectively) and settled in Shaw, Oregon, where they established the dairy farm where Georgia grew up. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem in 1945 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Oregon State College in Corvallis in 1949. During her college years, she was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and enjoyed summer employment with the Oregon Department of Forestry. After college, Georgia worked at the Hyster Company’s home office in Portland. She married Edward H. Quinn, an electrical engineer with the Bonneville Power Administration, in 1953. They lived in Salem for a few years, later relocating to Portland and then Gresham.
Georgia dedicated the 1960s and 1970s to raising her four children, managing a bustling household, and creating lasting memories on trailer-camping trips across the Pacific Northwest and Canada. In the 1980s and 1990s, she and Ed enjoyed retirement, summering in their Airstream on Marrowstone Island, Washington, and later in Warrenton, Oregon. Together, they enjoyed salmon fishing, birdwatching, and watching ships sail through Admiralty Sound.
Following Ed’s passing in 2006 Georgia moved to an over-55 community in Portland, actively pursuing gardening, knitting, and especially quilting. She enjoyed reading, served as president of her investment club and was a loyal Seattle Mariners fan. Her travels encompassed numerous locales in Great Britain, Europe and Canada. Georgia also went on cruises to the Hawaiian islands, Alaska, and the Panama Canal and took bus tours visiting famous sites and landmarks in the United States.
Georgia graciously welcomed her daughters-in-law into the family and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Georgia was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Quinn, and her brother, Fred E. Gilbert. She is survived by her sons Edward (Amy) Quinn of Portland, Michael (Victoria) Quinn of Cedar Mill, and Stuart (Karen) Quinn of Gresham; her daughter Kathleen Quinn of Portland; grandchildren Shauna Weaver (Skyler), Brandon, Sean, Cyan (Spencer Sturdevant), Courtney Krause (Robert), Anna, and Sarah; and great-grandchildren Pepper Sturdevant, Bridget Weaver, and Claire Weaver. Georgia’s warmth, dedication to family, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at St. Therese Church, 1260 NE 132nd Ave., Portland, on Friday, November 14, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to SnowCap or the American Cancer Society.
