Geraldine Anne "Jerre" Vaughn (née Ince), age 95, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on October 13, 2025, in Plano, Texas. Over the recent months and weeks, Jerre was surrounded by so many kind and caring family and friends. Her passing occurred on her birthday, marking the close of a remarkable life that began on October 13, 1930 with loving parents, Margot and Carl Ince and older sister, Jean. Sadly, she experienced the loss of her father at a young age, but in true Jerre fashion, she became a tremendous help to her mother by learning to drive and helping to balance their finances. Jerre was deeply devoted and loved her mother with her whole heart.
Shortly after Jerre graduated high school, Jean and her best friend Mary Vaughn Jones orchestrated an introduction to the great love of Jerre's life, Frank Vaughn, Mary's younger brother. They arranged for Jerre to babysit all the kids and told Frank he needed to high tail it over there and help her. From that day on, the families were forever stitched together in love. Frank and Jerre's love grew exponentially. They were blessed with five children: Monty, Kathy, Joe, David, and Matt, and with their spouses this love grew into 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Vaughn household was a warm and wonderful place for friends, seminarians, and neighbors to gather. Our family was forever changed after Frank's unexpected passing in 1994. Following the initial shock and heartache, Jerre rose to a new beginning and had to start a life on her own. After a few years, her heart continued to grow even more when she met Dick and the Toynbee family of three children, Rae Lynn, Rick, and Rhonda and their loving spouses, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Once again, another family was stitched together in love.
A lifelong Catholic, Jerre lived her faith in word and deed. Jerre had a deep love and understanding of the power of the Holy Spirit. She was fully committed to service and compassion, dedicating her time as a founding member and volunteer for Hope Hospice of New Braunfels. Jerre was also one of the very first Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion and served for over 40 years. Her spiritual devotion was not only evident in her church involvement but also in the way she uplifted those around her. She found comfort in prayer and saying the rosary in troubling times.
Jerre truly bloomed where she was planted. She was our "Geraldine, Chrysanthamene, prettiest little flower that you ever did see." Through her life with Frank, she made the most of each of their many moves and re-locations with her young family and even into retirement. Even when she may not have wanted to move, she dug deep and did what she does best, make friends. She showed us what it means to present your best self no matter what challenges you are facing. Pretty earrings and the right outfit can help you fake it, until you make it. Jerre had a mega-watt smile that could light up any room. She was so grateful and friendly to anyone she talked to, even strangers, and especially those who helped care for her. Jerre was always ON THE MOVE and every place she went, she found her people. She was a longstanding member of the Garden Club of Richardson, an avid tennis player, a serious card shark when it came to Bridge and Kings in the Corner, and a member of multiple book clubs, activities that brought laughter and connection to many gatherings with friends. She told her granddaughter just recently, "make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other's gold!" She had more friendships than twice her age that were truly lifelong, rooted all the way from California, Oklahoma, Florida, to St. Paul the Apostle in Richardson, to the banks of the cold refreshing water of the Guadalupe, and the salty shores of Trinidad.
Jerre was known to all her grandchildren as Gei Gei. Gei Gei was the master quilter whose artistry she shared with her grandchildren, but more importantly she patiently and lovingly stitched together so many people in her family. She was the mother who was the fabric of our lives; she binds us together. She was the love in every stitch. With so many in her family she somehow still managed to make each person feel loved and important. She was able to connect with each one of us individually, even as diverse and varied as we may be. She loved her family fiercely and despite many struggles, she remained steadfast in her prayers for each child. She worked hard to create space and traditions to celebrate her family including blazing bonfires on New Years, tubing down the river, giant family summer vacations to the lake, mountains, and beach, horseback rides and boating with dear family friends, cards for every single person on their birthday, grandkids visiting every summer, and the list goes on. Geig made it happen and never missed an event no matter how big or small- wedding or lunch or phone call. She never let technology pass her by, and in her 90s was expertly texting and facetiming with her great grandchildren.
Those who knew Jerre remember her as a force of positive energy who cherished her friendships and family deeply. Her warmth, generosity, and joyful presence left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory and smile bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Friends are invited to join the family on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano, Texas as we celebrate Jerre's life and faith. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM. A reception will follow at the church with everyone welcome to attend.
