"A difficult life is not less worth living than a gentle one." - Andrea Gibson
Gregory Benjamin Hatch, a cherished member of his family and community, was born on May 8, 1957, in Newton, MA. He passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at Marlborough Hospital, with his brother David, David's partner Donna, his Uncle Rob, and Cousin Richie by his side.
Raised in Sherborn, MA, Gregory, known to his friends as Ben, attended local schools, where he nurtured his intellectual strengths, including his mathematical talent.
Greg was known for his exceptional memory, aptitude for numbers, witty sense of humor, and most of all, his lovable nature.
Greg faced mental health struggles, which developed at a time when far fewer treatments were available and less was understood about mental illness. Still, he took on life's challenges with remarkable strength and resilience. He formed meaningful connections and treasured the support of his loving family. Greg was brave, tenderhearted, and could be wickedly funny. He will be missed every day.
Greg found happiness in simple pleasures. He valued solitude, yet delighted in small rituals, especially playing the lottery and scratching off tickets, delighting those around him with his speed and enthusiasm.
When Greg became connected with the Advocates Program in Framingham, he found a community that brought structure, friendship, and joy to his life. Among the many special relationships Greg formed there was his close bond with Jason Rice, Director of Clinical Services and Greg's former case manager. Jason's guidance and friendship made a lasting difference in Greg's life.
Greg is survived by his father, David A. Hatch Sr. of Mashpee, MA; his brother, David A. Hatch Jr. and his partner, Donna Mazialnik, of Lunenburg, MA; his sisters, Laura Supple and her partner, Rudy Rocco, of California, and Jennifer Hatch of Mashpee, MA; as well as his long-time friend, Susan Pergola, of Ashland, MA. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Greg was predeceased by his devoted mother, Suzanne Dickinson Hatch, whose steadfast support, involvement in his care, and advocacy for better mental health services were constants in his life. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hersey Hatch.
Gregory's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him as a beloved son, brother, and friend, and a testament to courage, kindness, and love.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Greg's life in May 2026, with details to be announced. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to assist his family with arrangements.
