Harold Dean Ball, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 6, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, Harold lived a life marked by devotion to family, quiet generosity, and a steadfast spirit.
Harold began his professional life as a service manager at a car dealership then to a fleet manager for a trucking line, where he built a reputation for reliability and hard work. After retiring from that role, he embarked on a second career in security, working for 25 years for his son in downtown Toledo. This chapter of his life brought him immense joy, as it allowed him to spend time with both of his sons and grandchildren while forming lasting friendships with many in the buildings he served.
Harold was a man deeply rooted in faith and family. He is survived by his beloved wife Rosemarie, with whom he shared nearly seven decades of marriage. The couple was eagerly anticipating their 70th wedding anniversary next year—a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together they raised four children: Dean (Jennifer), David (Linda), Debbie (Keith) Carlson, and Dawn (Jim) Radtke. Harold also leaves behind seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy. His sister Rebecca Davey also survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Leone Ball; brothers Thomas and Morris; and granddaughter Shanan Marie Ball.
Harold's life was defined by humility and service to others. Though he helped many throughout the years, he never sought recognition or praise. Even during prolonged illness, he maintained a positive outlook that inspired those around him.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harold found great happiness in being involved in the lives of his family—especially attending their sports games and activities. He had a gift for connecting with people; to Harold, there were no strangers—only friends he hadn't met yet.
He shared countless adventures with Rosemarie through their travels together and cherished the simple pleasure of playing euchre by her side. He also enjoyed working on cars with his sons and took pride in fixing anything that needed repair himself—a true craftsman at heart.
He was a member of St Patrick's of Heatherdowns parish for 50 years and also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Maumee, and the American Legion in Holland.
Harold Dean Ball will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, quiet strength, and deep love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. Per Harold's wishes, a private memorial was held.
