Harold Erwin Garrels II, a devoted husband, loving father, and seasoned traveler, died peacefully on October 20, 2025 in Cape Coral, Florida. He was married to Michele Garrels for 52 years.

Harold earned a Bachelor's Degree from Bradley University. He spent his entire professional career with Caterpillar, supporting various lines of tractors. His career included time in Peoria, Illinois, and assignments in Houston, Texas, and Syracuse, New York. His military service allowed him and Michele to also live in Hawaii.

Harold was highly mechanically inclined and enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, and doing projects in and around the house.

Harold was a sports and outdoors enthusiast who was a marathon runner, enjoyed bicycling, and loved boating. In Peoria, he regularly cycled with his wife and friends on Sunday mornings, followed by breakfast, and took boat trips on the Illinois River. Harold and his wife Michele enjoyed memorable adventures with friends, including twice vacationing in the British Virgin Islands and renting sailboats. They spent their days sailing, scuba diving, and snorkeling.

Harold and Michele retired to Cape Coral, Florida in 2009. They traveled extensively and enjoyed RV camping to explore Florida's National Parks. Harold became a volunteer and served as Commodore of the Cape Coral Power Squadron, promoting boat safety, with Michele serving alongside him as the Squadron's secretary.

The Garrels were known for their hospitality. Their Cape Coral home frequently welcomed friends from colder climates, who enjoyed their company, shared meals on the lanai, and joined them on boat trips. Harold was known as a very loyal friend and was a great "hugger"—his lady friends always wanted a "Harold hug."

After Michele's passing, Harold remained in his Cape Coral home, finding comfort and companionship in his two small dogs, who kept him active.

Harold is survived by his children, Chris and Renee, and his siblings, Larry and Connie. He and Michele will be deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbors.

In honor of Harold, memorial contributions should be made to a charity that is personally meaningful to you.
