HAROLD “HAP” MOORE
Hap Moore passed away at 82 years of age on 10/5/2025 in York, ME. His illness was short. He was born 9/13/1943 in Framingham, MA, the son of Richard and Barbara Moore of Newton, MA. The family moved to Lancaster, NH in 1947. He graduated from LHS in 1961. Hap enlisted in the US Navy and trained as a meteorologist and was stationed in Guam (traveled through the Pacific islands, Japan and Hong Kong). He continued his Naval years at the Fleet Weather Central in Rota, Spain and travelled through Europe. Hap became a flight forecaster for the Naval Jet Training Base in Mississippi. In 1968, after his discharge, he attended UNH graduating in 1971 with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. He worked for four years at The Mass Association for the Blind as a social worker.
Hap was a charter member of the South Berwick/Eliot Rotary and was recently named a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of all his services to the community and the world.
Following his real passion, Hap managed a large antiques business in Portsmouth, NH. In 1980, he went on to become a well-known, loved and respected, antiques dealer and auctioneer starting "Hap Moore Antiques Auctions” in York, ME. He was known for selling high-quality antiques from estates, private collections and old households from New England and beyond to an international audience through his extensive advertising. Hap retired after 40 years. He enjoyed many friends and associates throughout New England and the east coast.
Hap was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Richard Moore of Westport, CT. He is survived by his brother, Christopher Moore of York, ME (now Groton MA); Sister-in-law Nancy Moore of Westport, CT; his nephews Wesley Moore of Dover, NH; Christian Moore and Jason Moore of Houston, TX and Kyle Moore and nieces Jennifer (Moore) Tucci, Rebecca (Moore) Lopes of Baltimore, MD; their spouses; three great-nieces and five great-nephews.
There will be a memorial service for Hap at the First Parish Church in York, Maine on October 17, 2025, at 11am., with a reception to follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Eliot / South Berwick Rotary under Hap’s name per the information below:
