Harrison Thomas Griffith was born on August 26, 1951, in Gary, Indiana, to the union of Edgar William Griffith Sr. and Mattie Theresa Dampier. From an early age, Harrison was known for his determination and strong work ethic. While completing high school, he began working at Inland Steel. After graduation, he attended Indiana University Northwest for a time before committing to a long and successful career in the steel industry. Harrison worked faithfully for over forty years, retiring in 2017.
On October 20, 1984, Harrison was blessed with a beautiful marriage to Diane Renee Beard. Together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, California, New York, Las Vegas, and many tropical island cruises.
Harrison was known for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. Skilled with his hands, he enjoyed renovating and repairing properties and often volunteered his time and talents to help at church.
In his leisure time, Harrison loved watching Westerns, Perry Mason, and The Three Stooges. He was also famous among family and friends for his delicious homemade banana pudding — always made in a large dish so everyone could have plenty.
Harrison was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Griffith; son, Chris Griffith; daughter, Heather Bell; and cherished grandchildren, Marquise, Makiyah, and McKenzie. He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Edgar William Griffith Jr. of Peabody, Massachusetts; Harriet Joyner of Champaign, Illinois; and Frances (John) Beard of South Bend, Indiana, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar William Griffith Sr. and Mattie Theresa Griffith; daughter, Stephine Denise Griffith; siblings, Lawrence Griffith, Myrtle Griffith, Harold Griffith, and Arthur Griffith; and sisters-in-laws, Bernadine Griffith and Shonna Griffith.
Harrison will be remembered for his generosity, his gentle spirit, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His life was a blessing, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025 at McDuffie Funeral Home 1525 Broadway Gary, IN 46407. Viewing 10:00AM - 11:00AM with funeral immediately following at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest at Fern Oak Cemetery.
