Helen Bourbon

Helen Bourbon, née Payne, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, in Kearney, Nebraska. Born on July 26, 1947, in Oshkosh, Nebraska, Helen lived a life rooted in the heartland she called home.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Jim Bourbon and the cherished daughter of Willard and Meda Payne. Throughout her life, she remained closely connected to her family, treasuring the bonds that shaped her journey. She was a devoted mother to her son James Bourbon and a proud grandmother to Alyssa Bourbon, Madison Bourbon, Josephine Bourbon, and Simon Bourbon.

She shared deep ties with her siblings—brothers Jim Payne and Jerry Payne; sisters Connie Dorsey, LeaAnn Snyder, and Peggy Valles—who brought joy and companionship throughout her life. She also held dear the memories of her predeceased siblings Glenn Payne, Ronnie Payne, and Sharon Williams.

Helen had a gentle spirit and a warm heart that extended to all creatures great and small. Her love for animals—especially cats—was well known among those who knew her. She found joy in simple pleasures: playing the Mall World computer game brought her hours of entertainment and creativity; Kit Kats were her favorite sweet indulgence; and few things delighted her more than a cold Pepsi served with extra ice.

Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and peace to those who mourn her passing.
