Helen Marie Fotovich

Helen Marie Fotovich, age 84, was born November 9, 1940, to Stephen V. Fotovich, Sr. and Helen Barbara Thomas. She passed away on July 15, 2025. She was the oldest of nine children.
Helen Marie started her elementary education at St. Bridget’s Catholic school and transferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic school, graduating in 1954. She attended Mt. Assisi Academy, Lemont, IL, and entered religious life in the Order of the Franciscan Sisters of Christ the King in Lemont, IL, in 1958.
She taught elementary school in Chicago, IL, Kansas City, KS, Bethlehem, PA, Allentown, PA, and Gary, IN. . She received her Bachelor of Elementary Education from Avila College, Kansas City, MO in 1972. She remained with the community until April of 1978.
Helen Marie worked at the Unified Government of Wyandotte County for almost ten years. She taught crafts in her spare time, took on part-time jobs, and assisted at Our Lady and St. Rose with religious education and various other projects at the church. She was always ready to help whomever needed help. She believed in community and was community minded for everyone.
She was also an avid CB operator and was a First Responder. After she retired, she was very missed.
Helen Marie is survived by her siblings Stephen V. Fotovich, Jr. (Terry) of Huntsville, AL, Thomas Fotovich (Bev) of Parkville, MO, Sr. Ursula Fotovich of Wichita, KS, Magdalen Walker of Camdenton, MO, Cecelia Mowry (Brad) of Nevada, MO, and Jacob Fotovich of Leavenworth, KS, and many nieces and nephews and great‐nieces and great‐nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Matthew Jacob Fotovich and Matthias Peter Fotovich.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Our Lady and St. Rose, Kansas City, Kansas.
A memorial donation in memory of Helen Marie Fotovich may be made to Our Lady and St. Rose Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas.
Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas immediately following the mass.
