Send Flowers
Howard Scott Pence had lousy lungs that fought hard until the afternoon of Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, after a lifetime of laughs, deep sighs, motorcycle fumes, and perfectly timed one-liners.

Born August 19, 1949 to Lois and Robert Pence of Marion, Indiana, Howard was funny, loyal, personable, and passionate, the kind of guy who could turn a quick errand into an hour-long conversation and make a friend everywhere he went.

If he wasn’t covered in motor oil at the shop with Willie, you could find him on the boat with Mike, or kicked back in his favorite recliner, remote in hand, pretending not to be asleep. He loved motorcycles, classic rock, teeing off with his brother Brad, and Da Bears (even when they made it painful to).

He’s survived by his wife, Candy; his daughter, Lindsay; his brothers Randy and Brad; his sister Rhonda; and a lifetime of stories that’ll be retold for years. Some true (and some illegal).

Howard’s lungs might’ve quit, but the rest of him sure didn’t go quietly. His humor, grit, and warmth left a mark that no amount of time or distance can fade.

Funeral Services will be Friday, November 14th, 2025 at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34232.

Visitation will be from 10:30-11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service from 11:00-12:00.

A Military Honors service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.

In lieu of flowers, hug your people tighter, take a ride on a sunny day, turn the music up too loud, and raise a cold one to Howard.
