Ida (DelVecchio) Fitzpatrick, 101, of Linwood NJ, passed away peacefully on November 5th, surrounded by her family in a room full of love.
Born in Jersey City, NJ in 1924 to Rosolia and Antonio DelVecchio, Ida was one of 6 children. She went to Lincoln High School in Jersey City and later worked for Air Reduction of Jersey City and Sid Brook & Son Furniture of Pleasantville. Her most fulfilling achievements though were caring for her family and the time she spent with everyone.
She met her late husband Edwin Fitzpatrick at Jack’s Soda in Jersey City before he went to serve in WWII. She denied his advances but later, as the story goes, he came knocking to which her sister said, “Eddie’s back!”. He eventually won her heart and they went on to build a family and were married for over 64 years before his passing. They moved from Jersey City to Bogota and eventually settled in Linwood, New Jersey.
Ida and Ed built a big, beautiful family together and a home full of unconditional love and kindness. They had 3 children, Maureen Vitullo (Richard), Edward Fitzpatrick (Debbie) and the late, baby Pamela Fitzpatrick.
In addition to her children Maureen and Edward, she is also survived by her baby sister, Gloria Boyd, 94 of Newtown PA, 3 grandchildren, Kristen Fitzpatrick of Brooklyn, Pamela Karol (Ted) of Linwood and Amanda Leopardi of Absecon, her 10 great grandchildren, Alec Divenuto, Corbin Divenuto, Fiona Karol, Samantha Karol, Alina Divenuto, Mallory Karol, Vivian Karol, Luke Karol, Cianna Ariemma, and Annabella Ariemma. Along with many nieces, nephews and extended family, and her faithful companion, Nikki the cat.
It’s impossible to put into words who Ida Fitzpatrick was to our family. She was Ida, Mom, Grandmom, and Little Grandmom — the heart and matriarch who held us all together. Ida taught us the true meaning of unconditional love, acceptance, and kindness. She embodied the values of family and faith and reminded us of the importance of food, laughter, and togetherness.
Everyone who entered her home or her life felt welcome and accepted without exception. To say we will miss her is an understatement. Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort in knowing how blessed we were to have her love, wisdom, and warmth throughout all these years. Her legacy of unconditional love will live on in all of us who were fortunate enough to know her.
A viewing will be held on Saturday 11/15 from 9:30am to 11:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Linwood, NJ. Funeral service to follow at 11:00am. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, Linwood - Ventnor, NJ.
