Irma Jean Shepherd Brinson, age 81, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, in Plant City, Florida, the town where she was born and spent much of her life.
Born on July 29, 1944, Jean grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and community. She graduated in 1962 from Auburndale High School, where she proudly served as a Bloodhound Cheerleader. Following high school, she pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending beauty school and becoming a licensed cosmetologist. Jean worked in salons throughout Lakeland before opening her own home salon, where she welcomed clients with her signature smile and caring spirit for many years.
Later in life, Jean transitioned into a new chapter of service with the Hillsborough County School District. She brought her dedication and compassion to roles at Cork Elementary, Plant City High School, and the Migrant Advocacy Program. Her work touched the lives of countless students and families across the community.
Jean was a woman of deep faith and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Her belief in Christ guided her life and relationships, offering strength through every season.
She shared 59 loving years of marriage with her husband William "Billy" O'Neal Brinson until his passing in 2024. . Together they built a family rooted in love and togetherness. Jean is survived by her children Kelly Andreu (Alan) and Kevin Brinson (Marianne); grandchildren Jordan Sherman (Evan), Riley Andreu, Kenlee Andreu, Jackson Brinson, Peyton Brinson; and great-grandsons Jameson Sherman and Lincoln Sherman. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law E.J. "Jay" Brinson (Linda), sister-in-law Shirley Ross, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband Billy; her parents Herman and Nancy Christine Shepherd; and her little brother Jerry Shepherd.
Those who knew Jean will remember her as loving, sweet, giving—and always wearing the biggest smile. Her presence brought joy to every room she entered, especially when surrounded by family whom she cherished deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in the Fellowship Hall of Bethany Baptist Church, 3409 Cork Rd, Plant City beginning at 5:30pm.
