James R. "Jimbo" Conrad, age 84, passed away on October 16, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida. Born on June 10, 1941, in Lagrange County, Indiana, Jim led a life marked by service, resilience, and a deep commitment to his work and family.

At just 17 years old, Jim enlisted in the United States Army on June 17, 1958. He began his military service as a carpenter before transferring to the motor pool while stationed at Fort Dix. During the Korean War, he was deployed to Korea where he served with distinction. In one harrowing moment while defending Syngman Rhee's palace, Jim sustained injuries that resulted in the loss of two teeth from a rifle butt to the face—a testament to his bravery and dedication. He was honorably discharged following his service.

After returning home, Jim embarked on a career as a machinist and later transitioned into truck driving, which he did for over 17 years. Never one to shy away from new challenges or personal growth, Jim made a bold decision at the age of 52 to return to school and pursue a nursing degree. This career change proved to be deeply rewarding for him. As a traveling nurse alongside his wife Sharon, Jim found profound fulfillment in caring for others—a role he often described as the most meaningful of his life.

Jim's life was also shaped by love and family. He was preceded in death by his former wife Beth Ann Curtis; wives Sharon Conrad and Mary Conrad; sisters Eileen Manahan, Beverly Duttwyler, and Donna Gibson; brothers Don Conrad, Tom Conrad, and Rocky Sinniquefield; daughter Heidi Laudon; and granddaughter Tifani Miller.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Beverly Stamper; Tricia (Mike) Wyrick; Rhonda (Chuck) Lord—all of Elkhart, Indiana; stepchildren David (Grace) Smith and Gayle (Gary) Bowers of Texas; along with 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Jim's journey through life—from soldier to machinist to nurse—was defined by perseverance and purpose. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched both personally and professionally.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

A celebration of Jim's life is planned for Spring 2026
