James "Craig" Carey, 62, of Somers Point, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on November 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife, Ritamarie Sannino, and his cherished son, Justin.
Craig was born on September 4, 1963, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Upper Dublin High School, Class of 1981, where he was a proud member of the Marching Cardinals, Chorus, Jazz band and drama club. During his early years and throughout high school, he spent his summers at Circle Y Ranch Camp as a camper and later as a counselor. He loved visiting the beach with friends and family in Lavallette, New Jersey a place that brought him fond lifelong memories. He went on to build a successful career in manufacturing and sales, known for his professionalism, reliability, and easygoing charm.
A true free spirit and proud hippie at heart, Craig was an avid music lover, beachgoer, and fisherman. He was a talented guitarist and expressive vocalist, known for his warm, smooth voice and the emotion he poured into every song. Before founding The James Craig Carey Band, he performed with The Dusty Miller Band alongside Peggy, Griff, Scott, and Flick. His love for music shone brightly throughout his life, a reflection of his generous spirit and creative soul. Friends and family will remember him for his quick wit, his humor, and the warmth and patience that made everyone feel welcome in his presence.
Craig is survived by his wife Ritamarie Sannino, son Justin Monroe; mother, Patricia Coleen Carey; his brothers, George Carey and Michael Carey; and sister, Coleen Kwortnik. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Carey Elizabeth "Biz" & James Walsh, Mark Jr. & Megan Kwortnik, Sally & Dan Kauffman, Wil Melden, and Aimee Ricci. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Robert "Bobby" Sannino and Michael Joseph Williams; his sister-in-law, Ruthanne Williams; and their children: Lisa & Mark Warnock, Dianna & Ryan Coffman, Allison & CJ Ricciuti, and Emmelie & Michael Williams Jr. He was predeceased by his father, George H. Carey Jr. He will be deeply missed by his loyal dog, Drake, and by all who knew and loved him.
A private celebration of Craig's life will be held for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to honor his memory to donate to JamPak.org, or to spend time near the ocean and share a song in his name.
