It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of James “Jim” Albert Derosia, 77, of Brattleboro, VT. On October 30, 2025, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Brattleboro, VT, James was the eldest of three children born to Lyman and Gertrude (Gardner) Derosia on July 9, 1948. He attended schools in the Brattleboro area before going on to work at the Book Press for over three decades. After the factory closure he began working at the Outlet Center and finally Price Chopper where he met and befriended many individuals who came to appreciate his kindness and sense of humor. He retired early at the age of 62 with a desire to spend as much time as possible with his wife, family, and hobbies.

James met his second wife Pauline Gero through a friend and quickly decided he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. They were wed on September 18, 2004 and he was devoted to her until the moment he died.

In his younger years he spent time hunting and fishing around VT and NH. He had a keen sense of humor, a quick wit, often quipped that he was “born in the wrong generation” because of his love of technology and video games, an appreciation for all genres of music with a particular affinity for Elvis Presley, and wouldn’t pass up a good action or horror movie. He enjoyed many hours playing World of Warcraft with his wife Pauline, so much so that he maintained her game presence even after her death in 2012. He cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid collector and builder who was always happy to share his knowledge of video game systems, computers, Marvel and DC Comics, Baseball cards, stamps, coins, and classic car models.

James was preceded in death by his parents Lyman and Gertrude, his brother Lyman Derosia, his sister Susan (Derosia) Hitchcock, and his second wife Pauline. He is survived by his four daughters who love and miss him deeply. Wanda Scully and her husband Chris of Guilford, VT, Tammy Musgrove of Guilford, VT, Vicky Butterfield and her husband Jason of Floral City, FL, and Lisa Gleason and her husband Jeremy of Brattleboro, VT. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes there will be no calling hours or services. He will be interred at St. Michaels Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the National Kidney Foundation or the Windham County Humane Society.
