James Edward Ownby, alias "Jim," embarked on his final fishing trip to the great beyond on November 7, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born on August 23, 1957, in Fort Benning, Georgia.
He was the son of the late John Edward Ownby Sr and Anna Mae Ownby of Wellford, SC
Jim was quite the fisherman and could often be found with a rod in hand, convinced that the "big one" was just a cast away. He was the unofficial "Silver Lake Whisperer," known for his ability to hook fish as if by magic, but we suspect it was just his patient charm.
As a child, Jim lived life as an army brat, collecting precious memories and friends at every military base they lived. His childhood was a patchwork quilt of experiences, stitched together from the many places his family called home.
Jim is survived by his loving son Greg Ownby (Andrea), his son Dustin Ownby (Jose), his twin brother John Ownby Jr (Debbie), his sister Laketa Case (Alan), his grandson Caleb Ownby (Sadie), his granddaughter Taylor Furr (Daniel, Liam, Harper, Wren) and his only nephew John Ownby III (Donna, John IV).
Jim has navigated his final voyage in his little Jon boat, leaving a wake of laughter and tall tales for all to remember. An anchor in the lives of those who knew and loved him, Jim's spirit will sail on in the stories we tell and the fond memories we share. So, let's not say goodbye; instead, we'll just say, "Gone fishin'." 🎣
Jim, you'll be missed more than the big one that got away.
