It’s with great sadness that the Leddy family announce the passing of Jim Leddy on October 13, 2024 following a sudden stroke.
James Joseph Leddy was born August 8, 1947 in Bronx, New York to Evelyn and James Leddy. He spent his childhood in New Hyde Park, New York along with his younger sister Noreen (Bishar). Jim was a good student and spent most of his free time playing stick ball and eventually baseball with his friends. That was until he discovered golf. He was exposed to the sport while caddying for his dad who would give him the chance to hit following a round. It was the golf course that served as the meeting ground for some of his most treasured friendships as well as some of his most treasured memories.
He graduated from St. Bonaventure University and held an MBA from Fordham University. It was at St. Bonaventure where he met his future bride, Trudi Bissler. The two were married for 54 years and lived outside of Austin, Texas most recently to be closer to family. They were fortunate enough to go on many adventures together throughout those years including Europe, Alaska as well as places closer to home like Northern Michigan and Colorado.
A close second to Jim’s love of golf, was his love for clothing which led him to start his career in men’s tailored clothing at Norman Hilton. He continued his career with Hickey Freeman, then Corbin and finally his two passions came together when he was given the opportunity to run the Bobby Jones golf division. It was there that his golf clubs were able to go along for business trips which included countless trips to Augusta, Pinehurst and many other treasured courses.
Jim was someone who thrived on in-person interaction, which is good because a technology savant he was not. One of his former colleagues described his finest skill as “getting in the car, seeing the account live and offering some of that humor to lighten the mood.”
His sense of humor–some would say it was a dry humor, but his jokes could always guarantee a roar of laughter whether it be amongst the dinner table with his family or his golf buddies who he fondly referred to as “the Tribe.” While the group ebbed and flowed throughout the years, Jim was the connector and was always getting the group together for golf trips, good drinks and inappropriate jokes.
Jim was honest and sincere, two qualities he and Trudi instilled in their daughters who he leaves behind, Courtney Nally married to Brian and Dana Taylor married to Price. Grandpa and Poppa were two of Jim’s favorite nicknames as he and Trudi’s house was often filled with their grandchildren: Thomas, Caroline and Claire Nally and Lucie and August Taylor.
Over email a few months prior to Jim’s passing, he described his life in Texas as “heaven”—great golf, great weather, family and the grandkids.
Mass was said on November 9,2024 at St. Paul the Apostle church in Horseshoe Bay, Texas followed by a reception at the Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club. If interested, donations can be made in Jim’s name to Ascension Seton Foundation with “Dell Seton Neurosciences” noted in the memo line, Ascension Seton Foundation Attn: Joel Rice 1206 W 38th St #4200 Austin, TX 78705.
