James Rodney Seaver, Jr. ("Jim"), age 60, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Beaverton, Oregon, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. The beloved son of Roberta Lee and James Rodney Seaver, Sr., Jim was born in Hollywood, California and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1983. Jim was a regular fixture on the pitching mound as a teenager. He had a prodigious fast ball, clocking 90 mph at age 12 and tallying countless no-hitters. He helped propel his Raleigh Hills Little League all-star team in 1977 to the Western Regional championship game, falling one win shy of the Little League World Series. His love for baseball continued into high school, but his father's unexpected death from cancer forced him to trade an afterschool job for baseball to help support his family. Later, Jim attended Glendale Community College in Arizona and Montana Tech where he studied renewable energy, particularly solar and wind technology. He spent years working in the dry cleaning business and cited his work as a consultant as his favorite job. Jim's favorite hobbies included watching endless professional and college sports, fishing, vinyl record collecting (numbering in the thousands), and exploring the west, including Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, Lake Tahoe, and the Grand Canyon. Jim lived in Las Vegas and the Phoenix area—citing Cottonwood, Arizona, as his favorite—before spending nearly 20 years in Montana. Jim leaves behind his ex-wife, Laurel Jolly, with whom he remained close friends; his sister, Brenda Marie Seaver, of Potomac, Maryland; two nieces and a nephew; and longtime friends. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Darryll Lee Seaver and half-brother Charles Allen Ridgeway, Jr. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Jim will be buried at River View Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, where his brother is inurned. A private memorial service will take place in 2026.
