James ("Jim") Walsh, 72, was born on August 29, 1953 in the Bronx, NY and grew up in Hicksville, NY. After a brief, fierce battle with illness, he passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025 in Summerlin, NV with his loving children by his side.
Jim is survived by his former spouse and love of his life, Mary (nee Lynch), his loyal and true friend of nearly 50 years; his son, Brian and daughter-in-law, Nacia and their children: Tyler, Bryson, Nolan, and Anica; his daughter Suzanne and son-in-law, Bryan Barth, of Fishkill, NY, and their daughter Madeline. He is also survived by seven siblings and dozens of beloved nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Jim is predeceased by his loving parents, Palmer & Eleanor Walsh, brother Michael, and in-laws, Edward & Madeline Lynch.
Jim had a great love for adventure and exploring and he enjoyed meeting new people along the way. He could talk to and relate to everyone. Before settling down and raising a family in East Fishkill, NY, he lived and worked in San Juan, Puerto Rico for nearly two years and also spent an abundance of time in living in Australia. While he loved international travel, he used to always say there was no place more beautiful than his own country. He traveled cross-country multiple times, camping and backpacking, priding himself of spending time in all 50 states. A true native Long Islander, he had a passion for fishing, surfing and camping. He also played basketball and baseball locally growing up.
Jim began his career in New York City as an electrician for IBEW's Local 3 Union in the 1970s. Commuting from Long Island in and out of the city with his father Palmer, often working side by side, were among some of his fondest memories. After his early retirement from the union in his late 50s, Jim began his own successful telecommunications and data systems company in the Hudson Valley. Later bringing in and working side by side with his own son, Brian. Passing the torch and spending his final working days with his son by his side was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Jim was a family man and there was nothing more important to him than his children and five grandchildren. His son, Brian, was his best friend. If they were not working together or talking on the phone, you could find them sitting next to each other watching Notre Dame football, NY Islander hockey or NY Yankee baseball games. His daughter, Suzanne (his "Suzy"), had a special place in his heart. He especially loved taking her fishing, golfing and to both the Nutcracker Ballet and Radio City Christmas Show at Christmastime. Of all of the things he accomplished in his life, the role of "Grandpa" was undoubtedly his favorite title, and he was able to thoroughly enjoy it for nearly 20 years. He loved the decades long tradition of vacationing with his family in Lake George, NY and Montauk, NY, but Jim would be the first to tell you that wherever his grandchildren were was truly his favorite place to be. He hardly ever missed a sporting event or practice of theirs. Rolling around on the floor playing with them when they were babies, spoiling them, playing practical jokes and just being a part of their everyday lives made his heart full. His children and grandchildren all secretly thought that they were his favorite, and that is a testament to who Jim was; he had a gift for making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room.
His family will miss him deeply, with every beat of their hearts, every day for the rest of their lives. His immediate family will honor him privately with a burial at sea in Montauk, NY.
