Jana Lynn Lood (née Becker), age 65, passed away on November 7, 2025, in Libertyville, Illinois. Born on September 11, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, Jana brought joy and light to all who knew her throughout her vibrant life.
Raised in a secular Jewish home, Jana was proud of her heritage and carried that pride with grace and warmth. Her upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for tradition and celebration—values she carried into every aspect of her life. Known affectionately as the “Happiness Guru” and “Director of Fun,” Jana had an extraordinary gift for making others feel special. Whether it was a birthday, anniversary, or holiday, she never missed an opportunity to mark the occasion with heartfelt cards, thoughtful gifts, festive decorations, and boundless love.
Jana’s greatest joy came from the people around her. She loved fully and unconditionally—her family and friends were the center of her world. She is survived by her beloved daughter Morgan Rae Smith and son-in-law Michael Smith; her cherished grandson Grayson Robert Smith; her brother Barry Becker; and her nephew Travis Becker. Jana also shared a profound bond with Melissa Bender Schlau and Darlene Krupa—her “sisters from another mister”—who stood by her side through life’s many adventures. Her cherished friends Thomas Lood and Christina Klein were constants in her life’s journey.
Jana’s circle of love extended far beyond traditional definitions of family. She found long-lost siblings Cathy (Lee), Angie, Chet (Marlene), Milton (Lizzie), and held close the memory of Debra. She embraced nieces Shonda and Alicia and nephew Andy as if they were born into her heart.
She was preceded in death by her father Berton “The Mayor of Levy Center” Becker—a proud veteran who lived to age 92—and by her mother Charlotte “Eddie Girl” Becker (née Goldstein), who passed at age 76.
To know Jana was to be welcomed into a family that grew with every handshake, hug, or shared laugh. Anyone she met she treated like family—and eventually they became just that.
Jana’s legacy is one of joy, generosity, and unwavering love. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
