Janet Charlene (Lamontagne) Whitney, 69, of Waterville, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on November 8, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

Born in Greenville, Maine, on August 10, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Yvette Lamontagne. She grew up on Moosehead Lake at the headwaters of the Kennebec River and graduated from Greenville High School in 1974.

A 1976 graduate of Thomas College, Janet built a long career in IT and telecommunications, working for Cianbro, Avian Farms, AT&T, and Windstream. Her coworkers remember her as hardworking, dependable, and always ready with a story or a laugh.

Janet grew up skiing, water skiing, and even whitewater rafted down the Kennebec River a time or two. She was known for her free spirit, quick wit, generosity, and love of bringing people together. She especially enjoyed hosting Christmas Eve gatherings, football parties (famous for her perfect wings), and cooking for a crowd. A devoted Patriots and Red Sox fan, you could always find her rooting for her team. Her Jeep Wrangler was her happy place—top down, ocean breeze, sunshine on her face, and a little extra speed whenever the road allowed. That joy behind the wheel captured her adventurous spirit, and when opportunity arose, she never missed a chance to "duck" another fellow jeep lover!

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Whitney Lilja and husband Matt of Rochester, New Hampshire, and Rob Whitney and wife Ashley of Richland, Washington; her six beloved grandchildren, Tim Hammack, Jack Lilja, Evalyn Whitney, Kate Lilja, Teddy Whitney, and Tucker Whitney; her siblings, Michael Lamontagne and wife Elsa of Waterville, Ann Harding of Waterville, and Karen Caron and husband Neil of Oakland; her aunt and godmother, Charlene Vienneau of Vanceboro; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who she treated like family.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her now-famous last words while choosing her teams in the family football pool were some advice to live by: "Pick Pat's!"

To honor her generous spirit, consider donating to an organization meaningful to you. A celebration of her life will be held next summer in Maine.
