Jerald "Jerry" Greenberg, 79, of Sarasota, FL, passed away in Richmond, VA, on September 26, 2025. Known for his humor, generosity, and love of family, Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born to Estelle and Max Greenberg on November 24, 1945, Jerry grew up in University Heights, OH, and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated magna cum laude from John Carroll University. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan Ileen Greenberg, and his brother, Bernard "Bernie" Greenberg. He is survived by his children, Kelly (Vance) Noles and Natalie (Jeff) Messler; his beloved grandchildren, Bridger Noles and Elyse, Marina, and Mason Messler; and his sister, Adele November.
Jerry and Susan's love story began in their teenage years as high school sweethearts and grew into a lifelong partnership. They exchanged vows on July 9, 1967, and together built a marriage marked by devotion, adventure, and resilience. Through life's joys and challenges, they raised a family and remained steadfast companions, supporting one another with unwavering love.
Jerry's career began as a stockbroker, but he found greater fulfillment in entrepreneurial ventures. Together, he and Susan owned businesses—including a Bressler's 33 Flavors ice cream store and Maid in America, a maid service they founded in West Palm Beach, FL.
In retirement, Jerry and Susan journeyed across the United States and later ventured to remarkable destinations around the world, including Italy, England, France, China, Japan, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Germany, South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Brussels, and Estonia. Jerry pursued his individual passions with enthusiasm, riding his motorcycle across the country and building a sport airplane in his garage. He flew his airplane at every opportunity and loved it most when Susan was his co-pilot.
Known for his sharp wit and fun-loving spirit, Jerry brought laughter wherever he went. Whether singing "Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me" at Disney World, riding roller coasters at Busch Gardens, or simply making everyone around him smile, he approached life with warmth, humility, and joy. He loved food—from Chinese buffets and carnival treats to BBQ ribs and French fries. At Costco (one of his favorite places to shop for clothes), he never passed up a cheap hot dog or free food samples as he wandered through the aisles. Above all, Jerry cherished his family and never missed a chance to shower his children and grandchildren with love, support, wisdom, and thoughtful gifts. He especially enjoyed surprising Susan with flowers and jewelry.
Jerry will be remembered as the "fun dad," the "fun uncle," and the "fun friend." May his memory be a blessing to us all.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal service will be held. The family requests that those wishing to honor Jerry consider donating to their favorite charity in his name.
