Jerry Paul Larson, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
Born on February 24, 1937, in Osseo, Wisconsin, Jerry was the son of Bennie Larson and Dorothy (née Strader). He grew up alongside his siblings Mary Gjerseth (Vernon), Bud, Bob (Joan), and Tom, all of whom preceded him in death.
Jerry built a life marked by dedication and quiet strength. Known for being giving and kind, he carried a strong work ethic throughout his life. Growing up, he helped with farm chores and watched out for his younger siblings. His academic excellence was clear as he graduated high school as Salutatorian and was an honor student all four years. He was an active member of the student body, participating in the newspaper and annual staff, forensics club, class plays, and serving as secretary of the student activity fund.
Jerry translated his hard-working spirit into a successful, 30-year career in management for Lake County. He was respected and well-liked by his colleagues, a testament to his professionalism and kind nature.
After retiring, he found joy and fulfillment in new pursuits. He developed a passion for woodworking and spent time crafting with care and precision. Jerry was actively involved in the community by serving as a member of the Methodist Church board, Consumers Cooperative Credit Union board, and the president of the local AARP chapter. He had a love for reading, learning, home improvement projects, gardening, and bird watching; tending to his home, plants, and feeding the birds brought him peace and satisfaction.
Jerry will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Sandy (née Sage); his children Scott, Steve (Jennifer), and Marsha Hammer (Douglas); his grandchildren Samantha, Dylan, Abbey, and Cooper; and his great-grandchildren Skyler, Alleah, and Paisley. He is also survived by his two younger sisters Judy Zavodny (Jim) and Janet Treichler, as well as two sisters-in-law – Rita (Bud) and Marie (Tom), and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial church service and luncheon will be held on October 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099.
