Send Flowers Plant A Tree
Jerry Lea Miller, 85, slipped away peacefully at home on Monday, October 20, 2025, surrounded by the quiet hum of a life well-lived. Born Michael Anthony Marshall in Oklahoma City to Shirley Haskins, Jerry’s life took its first plot twist at age 2½ when Earnest and Belva Miller swooped in like superheroes and made him theirs. Soon the Miller Farm in Beggs, Oklahoma, echoed with the antics of little brother Griffith and baby sister Sharon—three kids, one tractor, and a lifetime of mischief.

A proud graduate of Harding High School, Jerry traded overalls for Air Force blues, serving from 1961 to 1967 with the same grin that later disarmed accountants and grandkids alike. Back home, he earned a BBA in Accounting from Southwest Texas State University in 1969, proving numbers could be fun if you told enough jokes between columns.

On August 29, 1970, Jerry married Janet in Dallas, and the real adventure began. The Miller house in Carrollton became headquarters for 40 years of bedtime stories, backyard barbecues, football parties, and one very patient dog. Jerry poured his heart into his community—volunteering, chairing boards, and always, always stopping whatever he was doing to help someone in need.

Faith, Family, Friends, Football, and FUN weren’t just words on a bumper sticker; they were Jerry’s daily itinerary. An avid reader, he had stacks of books waiting for the next read or would melt into giggles over a Cheetos-dusted comic strip. He had a PhD in making people feel valued—whether you were a CFO or the kid selling cookies door-to-door. He never met a stranger!

His last words, “Thank you for loving me,” show what mattered most.

Jerry is survived by the people who called him Dad, Grandpa, and “that guy who always had candy”:

• Daughter Jennifer Robertson and grandson Tyler Robertson of Lewisville, TX;
• Daughter Jaclyn (Ken) Young and granddaughters Natalie and Isabelle Young of Flower Mound, TX;
• Granddaughter Amanda Chronister and great-grandkids Chase and Noah Brooks; Journey Chronister of Checotah, OK;
• Grandson Austin Thomas and great-granddaughter Lucy Thomas of Checotah, OK.

He was preceded in death by his mother; parents; beloved wife Janet; brother Griffith Miller; sister Sharon Dilsaver; and daughter Deborah Thomas.

A memorial service with Air Force Honors will be held at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2200 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.

Come wearing your brightest smile—Jerry wouldn’t have it any other way. In lieu of flowers, eat a handful of M&M’s, call someone you love, and tell a terrible dad joke in his honor.
