Jerry Daniel Scott, 76, sadly left this earth for Heaven on October 15, 2025. He was born on October 9, 1949 to the late Johnson and Clarine Scott in Colonial Heights, VA and remained a resident there for most of his life. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jamie and Azia Scott, stepson David Suda, grandchildren Ashton, Lindsey, and McKenna, sister Christine Moore, and nephew William Earl Moore Jr. (Bill) and great nephew William Earl Moore III (Tray) as well as many chosen family members. Jerry was also preceded to Heaven by his oldest son Jeremy from an earlier marriage, his wife, Anne Scott, and brother-in-law William Earl Moore Sr.
He had a deep love for his community, proudly demonstrating selflessness and commitment to serving others over the years. Jerry was a lifelong public servant, proudly serving with the Colonial Heights Police Department, where his distinguished career spanned over three decades. Beginning as a dispatcher he rose to Detective Sergeant of Investigations before retiring. He was a proud graduate of the Virginia Forensic Science Academy and past president of the Academy’s Alumni Association, reflecting his deep commitment to excellence and mentorship in law enforcement. He was also a frequent instructor at the Crater Criminal Justice Academy, where he shared his knowledge and experience with the next generation of officers. In addition, he was a life member of the Colonial Heights Volunteer Fire Department, further dedicating himself to protecting and serving his community.
After retirement, Jerry kept himself busy by working with Richmond Window Corporation where he was admired for his integrity, warmth, humor and his ability to make friends everywhere he went. He was also a former member of the Colonial Heights Optimist Club and enjoyed contributing to his most favorite charities, the ASPCA and Christmas Mother, further reflecting his generosity and commitment to community.
In his later years he chose to live with Jamie and Azia, along with his precious granddaughters. Becoming a full time Papa and basking in their attention and accomplishments fulfilled his last years with immense purpose and pride. In turn, he gained a new family that he immensely enjoyed quality time with over numerous events and holidays or even just a typical Friday night hang out at home.
While we lost our most beloved Dad, our village lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, known as a Master Chef and the King of humor and witty remarks, but most importantly, FAMILY. Once you were chosen by him he would be right by your side whenever you needed him most. While there was so much more to him than Dad or Papa, to him that was his greatest role. While he is already deeply missed, we find comfort knowing that he is at peace and finally able to hold his son once again.
