June 19, 1932 – November 5, 2025
Joan Delgrosso Cirrito was born on June 19, 1932, in the Bronx, New York, to James and Lillian Delgrosso. She married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Cirrito, more than 70 years ago, and together they built a life that showed everyone around them what true love looks like. Joan was the proud and loving mother of three children and the beloved matriarch of a big, lively family that adored her.
She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Lauren (Bill Bosmeny), her son James, and her cherished daughter-in-law Margaret, wife of her late son Billy, whom Joan loved as a second daughter.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy:
* From Billy — Elizabeth Cirrito.
* From Lauren and Bill — Tyler Bosmeny (wife Sophie; children Jack and Alexandra); Caitlin (Cat) George (husband Michael; children Boz and Joni); Chloe La Rosa (husband Mark); and Mackenzie Bosmeny.
* From James — Hopi Cirrito (children Cristian and Chiara) and James Cirrito (wife Kimbrell; children Jamie and Jude).
She was the heartbeat of our family — the life of every party, the first to dance, and the loudest cheerleader for everyone she loved. Joan had a lifelong passion for musical theater and was especially proud to have starred as Dolly in Hello, Dolly! with the Coach House Players in Kingston, NY.
After moving to Tucson in 1980, she embraced desert life with her signature energy and heart. As a volunteer naturalist at Sabino Canyon for 20 years, she hiked the canyon daily, and led school field trips transferring her passion for the Sonoran desert. She also delivered Meals on Wheels to those less fortunate. She became “Grandma Joanie” to many beyond her own family, with an uncanny ability to make everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.
Joan now joins her parents, James and Lilly Delgrosso; her siblings, James, Victor, and Clara Delgrosso; and her beloved son, Billy Cirrito — a reunion we can only imagine is filled with love, laughter, and plenty of lasagna.
Her family will celebrate her beautiful life the weekend of November 15–16. Those interested in attending the Celebration of Life should contact a family member for more details. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joan’s name to Friends of Sabino Canyon, a place dear to her heart.
Joan leaves behind a legacy of joy, generosity, and love — a reminder to live big, laugh often, and always save room for her cheesecake.
