(John) Jean David Leblanc, born in August 1957 in New York City,
passed away peacefully in Miami on August 25, 2025, surrounded by love. He was 68.
John was the beloved son of Joan Leblanc and the late Johnny
(White) Leblanc, a Montreal and New York City
Jazz pianist whose untimely passing when John was five left an indelible mark on his life. Following this loss in 1963 John moved with his mother and brothers to Ville Saint-Laurent, Quebec to be near his grandmother and his aunt.
He grew up in Montreal alongside his brothers Jacques and Daniel, attending St Raphael's elementary school, Father Macdonald high school and Dawson College.
John's life was one of curiosity, learning and connection. He
travelled widely beginning at 7 or 8 when he discovered that for a quarter he could travel all over the island of Montreal. His mother, to curb his wanderlust, gave him permission to travel once a week only to St. Joseph's Oratory to visit Brother Andre's shrine. Summer camp at 15 found him skiing in Switzerland and visiting Munich for the Summer Olympic Games.
John's professional life was spent in the information technology field, where his work took him across Canada and the
United States. Over the years he worked for IBM, Xerox and ECM marketing and consultancy.
Before retiring to Miami he lived in Calgary, Vancouver, Minneapolis and Seattle.
Of the places he called home, Seattle was his favorite city.
He loved it deeply. He took part in the annual Polar Bear Plunge, spent time with his Banya buddies and found lasting
connection through community.
An avid reader and life long learner, John amassed a large personal book collection. For over a decade he made a yearly
Pilgrimage from Seattle to Miami to attend the Miami International book fair—
one of his favorite traditions.
John's spiritual journey was an important thread in his life.
He was a long-standing (25+years) member of a Seattle based
non-duality study group. He practiced Yoga and meditation, spending time in retreats in California and Costa Rica, and cultivated a sense of quiet wisdom that touched all around him.
He will be remembered for his gentle soul, his robust laugh and
his gift for friendship. He valued people and maintained life long bonds with friends from childhood and around the world.
John was witty, smart and fun to be with, bringing laughter
and warmth to every space. To know him was to feel uplifted.
Though he has left this earthly life, his essence remains eternal
and his love continues to ripple through all of us who were blessed to share in his journey.
John is survived by his devoted mother Joan of Miami ; his brothers Jacques and Daniel of Miami; his long time cherished friend, Karla of Miami; half-brother Mark of Montreal; half-sisters Danielle of London,England, and Sherri of South Carolina; ex-wife Shirley and step-daughter Melanie in Calgary, Alberta; his Uncle Frank in Peschici, Italy; and numerous cousins throughout the U.S., Canada and Great Britain.
