In Loving Memory of
John Strickland Luby Jr.
February 9, 1967 – October 26, 2025
John Strickland Luby Jr., 58, of Corpus Christi, Texas, peacefully died on October 26, 2025, surrounded by the family and friends he loved so dearly.
Born on February 9, 1967, John grew up in Corpus Christi and graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School, Class of ’85. He went on to attend the University of Texas, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and the Silver Spurs. He later finished his accounting degree at Corpus Christi University, building a career rooted in hard work, loyalty, and dedication.
John married the love of his life, Bridget, and together they built a family filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. He was a proud dad to Brooke (Tyler) Shindledecker and Johnny (Kate) Luby, and the most adoring “Papa John” to his grandson, Barrett Shindledecker (and one on the way), who brought him endless joy.
He was welcomed in heaven by his parents, John and Mayvic Luby, along with his grandparents, James and Mabel Luby and Moise and Mary Wilkinson. He is survived by his sisters, Debbie Luby and Mayvic (Mark) McCloskey, and his brother, Berry Peterson, along with many extended family members and lifelong friends who were like family to him.
John was the kind of person who made life fun. He loved hunting trips, good times at the ranch, cheering on UT football, and sharing stories over a cold Bud Light. His laugh was infectious, his presence comforting, and his love for his friends and family ran deep. John had a special way of making everyone feel like family — whether you’d known him for years or just met him that day.
He fought bravely through every challenge life put in his path, and in doing so, taught those around him what strength, faith, and family really mean. Though his time here was far too short, the memories he created will last a lifetime.
