John Nicholas Magnifico
8/28/1935 – 10/15/2025
John Nicholas Magnifico, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on August 28, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts John was talented, resourceful, and tenacious. He lived a life defined by curiosity, creativity, and a steadfast determination to understand, repair, and improve the world around him. He will be remembered as a man of immense gifts—artistic, musical, and mechanical—whose ingenuity touched everyone who knew him.
From a young age, John was captivated by how things worked. That curiosity carried him into service as an Army Machinists, where he honed the practical skills and disciplined mindset that became hallmarks of his life. He remained connected to fellow veterans through the VA, honoring a bond he cherished. John was a self-taught engineer and master craftsman. He also attended art school in Boston and became an Illustrator for Polaroid. John could fix almost anything and often designed and perfected solutions entirely his own. In the 1980s, he built and flew his own plane—an achievement that combined his love of aviation with his meticulous workmanship—and he earned numerous awards and trophies for his inventive design work.
John’s passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. He found joy in flying and in building things with his hands, whether fabricating a machine part or shaping wood into something beautiful. An artist in every sense, he painted, drew, and wood-carved with care and precision. Music was a constant companion; he loved gathering with friends, guitar and harmonica in hand, filling rooms with melody and warmth. For his family, some of the earliest and most enduring memories are of listening to him play his guitar—moments that revealed not only his talent, but his generous spirit.
John is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn Munroe, Jeanne Magnifico, Janice Magnifico Cordeiro and grandchildren and great grandchildren—his legacy lives on through his beautiful family. He is also survived by his sister who lives in Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Magnifico, also of Leesburg.
We will miss hearing all his great stories and spending nights talking on the phone.
He is remembered with affection by friends, fellow veterans, and all who sought his guidance when something needed to be built, repaired, or reimagined.
If John could be remembered for one thing, it would be his unwavering belief that with patience and determination, anything could be made better—often by hand, and always from the heart. He lived a life full of the things he loved to do, and his legacy also endures in the plane he built, the music he played, the art he created and the lives improved.
A private service will be held in the near future.
