Joyce Barclay (née Clough), age 80, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, in Elkton, Maryland, surrounded by her closest loved ones.
Born on November 23, 1944, in the Warwick, Maryland, Joyce was raised on her family's farm, where she learned the value of hard work and community from an early age. Her upbringing instilled in her a strong sense of dedication and service that would define her life and career.
Throughout her working years, Joyce held a number of roles that reflected both her industrious spirit and her warm personality. She began her career at the Kitty Knight House in Galena, Maryland, and later worked at the local Beach-house store. She also spent time working at the Bohemia Yacht Club before becoming a familiar face at the Hack's Point General Store, where she remained through its various owners and name changes. In each of these roles, Joyce was known for her friendly smile and happy demeanor—always ready with a kind word or cheerful greeting for anyone who walked through the door.
Joyce's life was deeply rooted in family. She is survived by her children, Robert Barclay and Lisa Barclay; her grandchildren, Cristina Barclay and Hunter Barclay; and her siblings John Clough, George Clough and Louise Wooleyhan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Clough and Clara Jones; as well as her siblings Wilson Clough, Norman Clough, and Marie Nickerson.
Outside of work and family life, Joyce found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed puzzles, quilting and sewing. She loved spending time with family and watching classic films on TCM along with other nostalgic shows from her youth. These quiet moments brought comfort to Joyce and those around her.
Joyce Barclay will be remembered as a loving and supportive presence whose kindness touched many lives within her family and throughout the local community. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
