Joyce Erickson

Joyce Vivian “Mema” Erickson (née Bowyer), age 99, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Locust Grove, Georgia. Born on December 10, 1925, in Orlando, Florida, she lived a long and full life marked by devotion to her family and a spirit of kindness that touched all who knew her.

Joyce was the daughter of Archibald and Mary Bowyer. She grew up alongside her siblings—Archibald, June, Patricia, and James—all of whom preceded her in death. She later married Chelson Erickson, with whom she shared many years of marriage before his passing. Together they built a family rooted in love and resilience.

She was also preceded in death by her sons James Erickson and Terry Erickson. Despite these profound losses, Joyce remained a steady presence for her family across generations.

Joyce is survived by her son Thomas Erickson. Her legacy continues through a large and loving family that includes grandchildren Melissa Baker (Jon), Lee Erickson (Lindsay), Amy Varner (Trey), Matt Erickson, Gretchen Ross (Steve), Stephanie Miehl, Halyn (Terri) Cameron, Marc (Rachel) Erickson and Sean Erickson; as well as great-grandchildren Kirsten Hester (Austin), Kenley Phagan (Josh), Kaidance Mullis (Ethan), Austin Erickson, Chandler Erickson, Hunter Erickson, Brantlee Erickson, Jax Varner, Finley Varner, Winston Ross, Nolan Ross, Henry Ross, Barrett Ross, Gabriel Hagood, Abigail Hagood, Hannah Miehl, Mason Miehl, Sophia Miehl, Evelyn Erickson, Charlotte Erickson; and great-great-grandchildren Daisy Hester, and Calla Hester.

She also leaves behind Daughter-in-laws Rindy and Margaret.

Known affectionately as “Mema,” Joyce will be remembered for the warmth she brought into every life and the unwavering support she offered to those around her. Her presence was a source of comfort and joy to five generations of family members who cherished her deeply.

Memorial service on December 20th 2025 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Erickson's family home officiated by Rachel Erickson.
