Jules Marcial Williams, 60, died on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Jules was born in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on November 20, 1964, the second oldest of nine children of Jules Louis and Geraldine Louise Williams (Fleming). He was a creative and driven soul who loved his family and friends and appreciated the many opportunities and adventures that life brought him.
He grew up working alongside his father in the family construction business and valued the skills he learned, which he used for the rest of his life to build furniture, decks, and fences, and to accomplish repairs around his home. Growing up, he embraced the role of eldest son and had many vivid stories about life in a large, boisterous family that extended beyond the nine children to many aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the Caribbean. The natural beauty of St. Thomas held a special place in his heart, and he cherished his time spear fishing, diving, and taking his younger brothers fishing.
Jules had a talent for drawing that he paired with the practical knowledge gained from working in construction to earn a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1990 from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. From there he embarked on a 35-year career that allowed him to travel the world, rising from project architect through a variety of leadership roles at Jacobs, Microsoft, and most recently, Oracle. In his professional life, Jules had a passion for solving problems and little patience for inefficiency. He was particularly proud of taking part in the effort to rebuild the Pentagon after the 9/11 attack, service for which he received recognition from the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. Of all his professional experiences, Jules found mentoring colleagues to be the most rewarding and was happy to have many colleagues become friends.
Jules' greatest passion in life was his family, and he was a devoted husband to Susan and father to Camille and Quentin. He fixed boo boos and broken toys, danced until his feet hurt so he and Camille could win a contest at the daddy-daughter dance, and slept on the floor of the Adventure Aquarium when Quentin wasn't sure about an overnight stay with his scouting troop. He applauded with joy and pride at choir and orchestra concerts, dance recitals, musicals, soccer and basketball games, and track meets. He spent many hours playing in waves and walking on beaches with his wife and children. Most of all, he worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and knew that they were loved. They deeply miss him and the daily notes and texts of love, humor, and encouragement that he sent them.
Jules lived well, fully, and with great optimism for the future for more than four years with cancer. His death was unexpected and sudden. His family thanks the doctors and nurses at Johns Hopkins Hospital who cared for him and the many people who offered kindness, support, and prayers.
Jules is survived by his wife, Susan; their children, Camille and Quentin; his father, Jules; his parents-in-law, Allan and Carol Hobbs; his sisters, Adeline (Antonious), Angeline (Herman), Anique, Angele, Ariane, and Annemarie; his brothers, Jean Louis and Jean Luc; his godson, Elijah; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on November 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8300 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Tumor Network or the American Brain Tumor Association.
