Katherine "Kay" Celeste Benton passed away on August 29, 2025, at home, with her beloved husband and family by her side.
Born on July 21, 1962, in Tempe, Arizona, to Burley and Mary Copeland, Kay grew up and attended school, including Corona Del Sol High School, in Tempe. Later, she raised her children in this same community. Kay trained as a cosmetologist and worked at Cost Cutters for almost 15 years until disabilities led her to retire early.
The year 2001 was a turning point for Kay when she met the love of her life, Daniel Benton, while out with friends at Rockin Rodeo. Dan and Kay didn't want the night to end, so they finished with breakfast at Denny's, talking until almost 4:00 AM. From that day on, they were inseparable. They married seven months later on October 26, 2001. Dan will forever miss Kay and is grateful for the happy memories they shared, including RV trips to Payson and Christopher Creek.
Kay was a passionate crafter with a love for all animals. Dogs and cats were her furry companions, but her heart belonged to her grandchildren. Kay shared a unique bond with her three granddaughters, as she had the joy of caring for them during their preschool years while their parents worked. With a heart full of pride, she watched as they grew into remarkable young women. Though Kay fought hard for more time with them, she left them with enough love and memories to fill their hearts.
In addition to her husband, Kay is survived by her son, Joshua Reidhead and his children Lexi, Brittany, Brooke and Paul, her daughter, Rachel Reidhead and son Shay, her son, Brad Wright (Nikki); her brother, Burley "Mike" Copeland (Kathy); and their children, Mackenzie Kirk (Dustin), Carrie Rosenberg (Joey), Ashley Nelson, and Ben and Seth Copeland , brother-in-law Keith Huggins, and bonus daughter Alicia Laney, who is the mother of her adored granddaughters. Kay is also survived by her cousins, Janice Boettcher and Patrick Lum; those annual trips to visit them in Yuma were filled with laughter and were some of the highlights of her childhood.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ann Huggins.
All are invited to join the family for a memorial service followed by a luncheon which will be held on October 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Twin Butte Baptist Church, 7202 S 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85042. Kay attended this church since childhood and was baptized there. Her family finds comfort knowing that Kay now rests in peace with the Lord and in reunited with her parents.
